Identity Ideation

Marc Esses, his name combined to form MESSES ENTERTAINMENT. A pure entertainer with many skills. I wanted to simplify a look that would describe and showcase his talents. He has quite a story to tell. The identity project was a blank canvas and the only direction I was given was; "It must be colorful." Keeping in mind that these were the initial sketches to begin the brand from a jumping off point, delivering 4 directional concepts.


The beginning stages of the creative process started with brainstorming of how to use the "M" as a leading element and to get a pulse on where to take this to next level. The goal was to create an iconic mark that could be used as an alternative to illustrate his significance.

  1. First sketches were a retro graffiti look contrasting with the clean bold type.

  2. Then, a sound wave became an element to be recognized with DJ, Emcee, Drummer, Singer, Songwriter and an entertainer at all levels.

  3. Using a bold "M" creating the use of an singing illustration and capturing what Marc is about; however, that seemed less relevant and had been done before.

  4. 4th and 5th concepts are a combination of sound using equalizer levels, a clean technical element but a contemporary feel and since he has toured internationally, I drafted a concept for a global element that was fitting.

Final Identity

With the combination of singing and entertaining all the above is the below final identity for Marc Esses, creating MESSES ENTERTAINMENT. Creating a technical complex identity with gradients and the vibrant colors requested. The results, are commanding presence and the driving force on of Marc on stage. His fist gripping that microphone and controlling the sound of his performances. The stage lights hone in on him with bright colors illuminating his performance delivering power. The rounded modified white typography communicates a neon sign retro feel as his name shines bright.

The client was very pleased. "I couldn't have asked for anything better. You brought my vision to life. This is me, my brand!"

Package Identity

Below is the Brand package for the MESSES ENTERTAINMENT identity. The secondary logo combines one of the initial concepts of the global element with the "M" inside resembling the top of the microphone.
